Happy Easter

HE IS RISEN!

I wish a Happy Easter to all my “Friends.”  This is a great day in many ways and I pray for your health and joy.  This is also a great day to officially announce our victory in reaching our two fundraising goals. Achieving both goals in the same week has never happened before and to announce our success on Easter Sunday is very special.

Anne G. Broady Scholarship Fund

Goal  $1,800.00    Actual  $1,850.00    Deadline Achieved!

We can all be proud of this accomplishment as it demonstrates the continous interest and support we provide to the Copey Learning Center. I have been watching this year’s campaign with great interest. We are in our first year of our second decade supporting the educational  mission of the Copey Learning Center. I anticipated this would be a very difficult year because many of us are experiencing significant challenges with our financial resources and have lost ground in many cases. We  achieved this goal because the majority of prior donors continued donating and several “Friends” were first time donors.  A few donations were lower than in the past, the larger donations continued, and the difference was made up by the new donors.

Executive Director Salary Support Fund

Goal $2,000.00  Actual $2,100.00   Deadline  Achieved!

Our more challenging campaign was also achieved. We are without question looking forward with great expectations as the first few weeks at the Copey Learning Center have been very busy and productive. This is the benefit of having strong, competent, and experienced leadership. The reports coming from the center are encouraging and positive.

The salary support is important and truth be told, the total income provided to the center’s director is shockingly below what the position would pay in an urban location in the country. Our support helps in two key ways. First, the additional compensation support helps supplement the salary the center pays. And, the financial support provided by “Friends” demonstrates to the director there is interest extending beyond the walls of the community. This all helps with continuity and consistency in leadership and mission accomplishment. Past donors and several new donors again made the difference.

Shared Condolences!

Several “Friends” responded and reacted to the news that my friend Mayor David Helms passed away a couple weeks ago.

Your comments directed to me were very much appreciated. Clearly, we share the same sense of loss and grief. He was well thought of. I learned the Virginia state govenor ordered the flags lowered in honor of Mayor Helms’ lifelong service to his community and state.

Mayor Helms was taken to his final resting place by a team of Clydesdales. For Mayor Helms, this prestigious means of transportation was most fitting and well deserved.
