Endlessly Enriched By Helping Others

“You can give without loving, but you can never love without giving.”   By Robert Louis Stevenson

January is gone and now February is already underway. And, we are now moving closer to the startup of the Copey Learning Center. The reported start date is set for March 8, 2021. As things stand today, the plan is to begin classes using on-line instruction. We are not certain how long on-line instruction will be used but hopefully we will eventually return to actual classroom teaching.

Anne G. Broady Scholarship Fund (AGBSF)

AGBSF Goal: $600.00    Actual: $250.00  Deadline: February 28, 2021

Today, I am officially announcing the annual Anne G. Broady Scholarship Fund. The goal set for this year is much less than previous years. This is because the early closing of the Center in 2020 resulted in waiving tuition fees for students. The Fall 2020 on-line educational service project was a quick fix response to avoid having students miss out on a full year of education. As such, families were not charged to participate.

The plan for the 2021 school year using on-line or virtual classroom methods must include student tuition costs. And, Covid-19 has increased the need for additional tuition support. As a result, we plan to raise a much smaller amount of funds to add to our leftover 2020 funds to assist additional students now needing financial support.

Executive Director’s Salary Support (EDSS)

ED Salary Support  Goal: $1,400.00  Actual:  $100.00 Deadline: February 28, 2021

Additionally, our second annual fundraising campaign to help cover the Executive Director’s salary in 2021 will also start now. About 60% of last year’s funds we provided was used last Fall to support the 15 week educational project.

“Thank you Arthur for your blog! It gives us hope to continue working here in Costa Rica. We realize that many people have supported our students to find new and better lives. Thank you “Friends of Copey”. We are doing our best to continue the teaching process.” Catalina C.

This support is essential to the continuous operation of the Copey Learning Center. Without question, the small Copey community, with very few economic resources, cannot alone fully compensate its Executive Director, the only paid staff member for the Copey Learning Center. During our six years of salary support, the Center has enjoyed success, has established and maintained consistency and continuity of service, and has sustained its presence as a viable community educational resource.

The 2021 Pathway Project

This project is very questionable as the travel restrictions and other factors involving both the USA and Costa Rica are expected to remain uncertain and restrictive. We will keep our eye on this as the next couple of months passes.

Donation Methods

The methods available for donating have not changed since the first fundraising campaign in 2014. If you are planning to be a financial supporter this year, the two methods below have served us well and without any complications.

  1. The Copey Learning Center’s PayPal can be used to make donations directly. Please access the PayPal system by clicking on….http://copeylearningcenter.org/. Find the PayPal logo in the upper right hand corner of their homepage. To make certain the Copey Learning Center recognizes your donation and how it should be applied, indicate in the comment section on PayPal that the donation supports the “AGBSF” or the “EDSS”.
  2. The alternate method is to send me your donation. Make the check out to me (Arthur Broady). Once received, your donation will be paid directly to the same Learning Center PayPal system as in Method #1. I will enter your name and designate where it is to be applied per your directions. The PayPal system will issue me a receipt which I send to you as “proof” the donation has been submitted to the Learning Center in your name. Make your check out to Arthur Broady and send to:
    725 N. Center Parkway, Apt. N-201, Kennewick, WA 99336  Phone:1-509-783-5897
  3. If there is a special request pertaining to 501c3 and IRS, please contact me.

A Major Achievement Noted…!

“Friends” visiting the weekly Blog reached a major milestone in January. The January 2021 monthly total of site visits is the third highest month since our first Post dated December 2013…86 months ago. “Friends”…you deserve the credit because this measurement depends solely on “Friends” visiting the Post. The highest month recorded was January 2014 and number 2 is March 2016. Thank you for this significant accomplishment and for being great “Friends”.

  1. Thanks for reminding us to give. The Copey Center depends on it! We’ll donate some support now.

  2. So happy to be able to support such a worthy and important group of students, teachers, administrators, and volunteers. Thank you, Scrapper, for keeping us informed of the numbers.
