We are now only 30 calendar days from the Copey Learning Center’s annual graduation scheduled for November 27th. My travel schedule is set and I am growing excited about my return to Copey. I look forward to my visit with close friends, Larry and Cindy, Ana Yancy, Catalina, and many of the past Pathway Project students who previously traveled to the United States since 2016. The Follow Your Tug…Friend!
Long time Friends are familiar with Anne (Lawrence) Beaudoine. She is well known for being present during my initial interview (2011) with the Copey Learning Center’s Founder, Seidy Rodriguez. Anne was the interpretator during the interview held in Copey. She had relocated to the Copey area to start a new life and operate a B&B business.
Several years ago she returned to Canada. Last year she made the enormous effort to travel from Canada to Virginia to attend the Pathway Project reception to help us celebrate our 10th Friends of Copey Annivesary. (Anne on left and Catalina on right are shown)
Anne, an excellent writer, published her first book “Following My Tug” around 2013. Her book described in extraordinary detail her journey from Canada and entry into Costa Rica. I have frequently suggested this book be required reading for anyone planning to visit or relocate to Costa Rica as well for college students interested in international studies. Clearly, Anne captures so many of the cultural nuances and subtle idiosyncrasies of beautiful Costa Rica and its welcoming people.
Now, with a new publisher, Anne is preparing to launch her memoirs with a renewed version of her Costa Rican journey. Saturday, November 2, 2024, Anne’s memoir will be available for Early Bird readers as an e-book! I personally recommend this wonderful accounting of her journey. The Anatomy of a “Friend of Copey”
Over the years I have been asked about “Friends” and the why or how this project continues to survive. I have been an active reader of various books pertaining to topics relating to human behavior and self-improvement with the back-drop being my search for meaningful ways to answer the whys and hows of Friends.
Over the next several weeks I plan to share a few of my favorite reading sources. I hope to make some sense of the ongoing success we enjoy. I can say with confidence the vast majority of “Friends” share some common attributes. Let’s start with “Friends” being just “good people” who care. Next, there is the common attributes of “Friends” being doers and givers. And, finally these “Friends” share the attribute of “making a difference” in a variety of ways…not just with this project.
“Friends” come from all corners of life with differences in races, economic levels, religions, and locations. But, there clearly are threads of commonality. The first book I suggest reading is “The Go-Giver” by Bob Burg and John David Mann. This book lists several life principles many “Friends” live by. Check it out.
