Blessed are the Roses

“Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses.”  By Alphonse Karr

They have arrived. The two Emory & Henry College students arrived in Copey early last week and have already begun their work with the children at the Copey Learning Center. I have been in touch with both Camden and Katelyn and they seem very pleased being there.

Camden commented “Me and Katelyn are very excited to be here and we are eager to help teach these sweet kids.” And Katelyn’s note said, “Hola..! We are beginning to settle in. Things have been going well over here.”

There was an unexpected twist to their arrival in Copey. DaShawn Forbes, EH College student who spent last May in Copey as one of the 2023 Pathway Project students was already in Copey when both Camden and Katelyn arrived. Yes, there are at the moment three EH College students in Copey. DaShawn, thank you for caring enough to go back to Copey for a visit.

The 2024 Pathway Project Progress Report

Catalina and the two Copey students are preparing for their June 10th scheduled departure to the United States. Time is getting short. The date the guests are expected to arrive in southwest Virginia is June 12th following their short stay in Washington, D.C.

I am calling on all nearby Friends to mark your calendars and join us on June 14th for the annual reception. We are so eager to have you share the evening with us as we welcome our guests and enjoy the food and festivities.

                      The 2024 Pathway Project Goal…!

Goal  $4,500.00    Current  $3,500.00    Need $1,000.00      Deadline  June 24, 2024

Our financial support continues to trickle in at this stage. This is very typical and similar to past experiences. We still have a month until the deadline. Plans are also underway to conduct a local fundraiser to help us along. However, if there are any Friends who have not yet financially supported the AGBSF and the EDSS fundraisers, and would like to make a donation to the 2024 Pathway Project…please do. Join in and help us cover the expenses for this very unique opportunity we will be enjoying in a few weeks. By chance, if you intend to make a donation during the reception, please send me a note stating this being your intention. I can factor this in my local fundraising plan.
