Action Breeds Confidence…!

News Break…!

This will be the first installment of several reports on the Copey community’s efforts  to continue English education for its students although the Copey Learning Center remains locked up due to Covid-19.

The Center has reached out to over 50 students with news of on-line classes starting in early August. About 30 families have indicated their support for this effort and soon their sons and daughters will be resuming their English education. How this will be done is what will get you excited. This type of plan and effort is likely absent elsewhere in the country. No one wants to lose a year of education, especially English education. Students confined at home results in loss of  developed English skills and it is important to avoid this potential loss.

This effort is very remarkable but not surprising. The Copey community is different. Next week, an update will be provided on our progress.

“Friends”…you will be very pleased!

Covid-19 Update…!

Sixty-two people have died in Costa Rica after contracting the coronavirus, including eight deaths since Saturday afternoon. The data indicate Costa Rica has 1.21 COVID-19-related deaths per 100,000 people.Covid 19 image

No updated news can be found on the status of the public schools. Last week, I reported the Costa Rican Ministry of Education announced that schools will not reopen for class until at least September. This seems to be the current plan since there is silence on any updated news. Source is the Tico-Times, July 17, 2020 edition.

Celeste Ulloa…!

“Friends”…does the name Celeste Ulloa sound familiar? EH Travel studentsCeleste Mora

Maybe not…but it is important to remember she was one of the first two students who traveled to the United States in 2016 under the “Pathway Project”. Since that time she has been making the most of her education and experiences.

Photos taken in 2016 as Pathway Recipient.

It is so rewarding for us all when we can actually see the positive impact we can have on another person’s life. Celeste is one of our early signs of a productive and successful  return on our human investment.

I will provide more details about her life in next week’s Post.
