The Content of Character…!

Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved.   By Helen Keller

This is my sixth anniversary celebrating the Dr. Martin L. King, Jr. holiday with you …and you with me. I can think of nothing more personally rewarding than to be involved with others (Friends) who share in so many ways, the essence of Dr. King’s “I have a Dream” message.

MLK Jr. Book

I believe “character” speaks to the nature of our self, the who or what we are. What makes up our character or the content of our charactor serves to distnguish us as unique people. We are far too complicated as people to be defined in total by any lazy and shallow
assumptions…especially by simply the “color of our skin”.

Dr. King looked forward to the day when assumptions about one’s life, dreams, abilities, and potential would demand a true and honest look at one’s character and not merely the color of someone’s skin. The road to that day Dr. King dreamed about has been long and challenging and unfortunately we have not arrived yet. But…it is still worth the effort. ‘Friends of Copey’ is doing its part.

Executive Director Salary Support

EDSS Goal: $2,000.00 Actual: $00.00 Deadline: April 9, 2019

I was honored to receive this week a letter from the Copey Learning Center Board member Catalina Cortes who wrote on behalf of the members of the Board. This in part is their response to my letter to the Board a few weeks ago indicating our intentions as “Friends of Copey” to continue our support in 2019.

As you can see in the letter, the community and especially the Copey Learning Center Board express a great deal of enthusiasm and have high expectation of making 2019 an even better year than 2018. To meet these challenges, strong day to day leadership is essential to keeping human and physical resources working together and successfully. You can help by supporting the EDSS fund.
